Repointing
Cement Mortar Repointing
Quick-setting, durable cement mortar repointing for modern brickwork. A strong, cost-effective solution for everyday masonry.

Modern mortar mixes are made with Portland cement and typically the fine-grain sand available at any builders' merchants. A cement-based mortar is quick-setting, inexpensive and very strong. Working with a cement-based mortar is also far less labour-intensive than working with lime mortar, which is why these qualities fit in well with modern building practices.
What is cement mortar repointing and do I need it?
Cement mortar repointing is the renewal of mortar joints in modern brick and block walls using a Portland cement-based mix. It's well suited to most properties built from the early 20th century onwards, where strength and rapid set times matter more than breathability.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Do you use lime mortar or cement mortar for repointing?
Both. The correct choice depends on the age and construction of the wall. We assess the existing mortar and substrate, then specify a lime or cement mix that is compatible so the repointing performs correctly and doesn't damage the masonry.
How much does repointing cost in East Sussex?
Repointing is priced per square metre, typically from around £30/m² for straightforward raking-out and refilling. Scaffolding, brick repairs and wall-tie replacement add to the cost. We survey first and give a free, fixed written quote, no estimate games.
Is your work guaranteed and are you insured?
Yes. All workmanship is guaranteed in writing and we carry £1 million public liability insurance. Certificates are available on request before work begins.
